Invitational group exhibit at Projective Eye Gallery, UNC Charlotte Center City built around the theme of “Icarus”; five 8’ x 4’ encaustic panels depicting digitized copies of figures from Raphael’s “School of Athens.”

Within the “Icarus” theme, I focused on “transformation.” From the fable, the physical transformation of wax forces a transformation in Icarus. As hand painted encaustics, these images melted over time, transforming from semi-representations to pure abstractions.

I referenced Raphael’s “School of Athens” as a masterpiece of one transformative era depicting another; a Renaissance artist reflecting on classical Greek philosophy. Digitally processed, the dialogue is filtered again through another transformative period; the Digital age.
