This series of acrylics on found materials was an exploration of documentation, decontextualization, and reflection. Using a variety of dated documents uncovered from my mother’s former home (letters, photos, sales slips, business cards, receipts, etc.), these became the ground on which to record plein air observations of the moon’s phases. Simple research identified the moon phase of each date noted on the documents, then painted from direct observation onto the document. The moon sketches were compiled into an animation and presented as a multimedia presentation with audio and a shoebox filled with the documents.
